Setting a Spring Table & Rope Charger DIY

Last weekend, I spent a fun Sunday morning attending a decorating class at Pottery Barn. The class taught how to set a table for spring. Although some of it was a little much (we don’t need a bunny on everything), there were some great tips about how to create a fun meal with your friends and family. It also inspired me to make my own rope charger in an easy DIY project.

Here were some of the takeaways:

1. Create height with your centerpiece, but have an exit strategy for the tall items. Yes, they used the words exit strategy. I would have never thought to remove a centerpiece from a table, but it allows everyone to talk without flowers in their face, and you still get credit for creating an awesome centerpiece. So let everyone see the great centerpiece, but know how you will readjust during the meal.

2. Bring in greenery and naturals. This is more of a trendy way to signify spring without putting easter eggs and bunnies on everything. I love the idea of rope chargers, natural placemats, and pops of green plants on the table.

3. Its okay to use plastic dishes if the party is outside. No one wants broken glass, especially if you paid for it. Pottery barn has great glass-looking cups and beverage dispensers that even fooled me. Melamine plates add great pattern and a theme to your setting without costing a lot.

4. Serve food in a buffet-style to spend more time with your guests. Bring in elements of your decor onto the buffet table to make it feel connected.

Here’s how I made a rope charger for the centerpiece of my table:

-Materials: natural looking rope (I used 15 feet of 1/2″ thick rope), hot glue.

-Coil the rope in a circle until you reach your desired size.

-Run the hot glue gun between the rows of rope to adhere them. This also creates a non-skid backing.

-Let it cool and set your table!

While scrolling through pinterest, I saw tons of ideas like this to decorate vases, lamps, or to make coasters. I love that its quick and easy!

Xo.
