This year, it seems widely accepted that everyone wants to decorate for the holidays early. I love scrolling social media and seeing everyone’s cheerful and happy spaces. For my holiday decor this year, I wanted to ensure it felt really bright and special, especially now that I spend most of my time at home!

Merry Christmas from Style & the Suburbs
I am excited to kick off the holiday week by wishing you all a Merry Christmas! I hope you get some time this week to relax, recharge, and spend some time with loved ones. If it’s been a hard year for you, I’m sending you my positive thoughts for better times ahead.
This week, I am looking forward to taking much needed time away from work, spending some time alone getting some quality running in, and spending time with my family and nephew for his first Christmas. As you know, I absolutely love decorating for Christmas, and I’m already dreading having to take the decorations down! I thought I would share my tree decorations from this year before it starts to drop all of its needles!

My Christmas Mantle Decor
One of my favorite days of the year is when I decorate my christmas mantle. I try to do a little different look each year, and it’s always fun to pull it all together. This year, I felt like we didn’t have a fall season, so I tried to hold out as long as possible, but still ended up decorating in mid-november.
This year, I went for a more colorful and whimsical theme, instead of the more traditional look that I normally have.

Tour My Christmas Decor
Decorating for Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year. Each year, I love to do a slightly different color theme or style, and I love buying new stuff on sale after the holiday and refinding it the next season! This year, I kept the look more simple and classic Christmas with mostly neutrals a few pops of red and a lot of greenery. I like to spread the decor throughout my house so there is a little something in each room.

Historic Burwell House Holiday Tour
One of my favorite holiday traditions is touring a historic Victorian house in the Minneapolis suburbs that has been preserved. Each year they decorate the house for Christmas and have guided tours.
My 2019 Christmas Tree
Ever since I used my first real Christmas tree a few years ago, I never want to go back to faux. They are kind of a mess, but there’s just something about a real tree that feels more special (and you can’t recreate the smell!).
The past few years, I’ve cut down pine trees from my own yard that were the perfect size for a christmas tree and that I didn’t want to grow any bigger. I ran out of trees this year so I had to buy one. I love the look of non-traditional trees, so I opted for a douglas fir which is a little more fluffy looking.
