Last month, I had a work trip in LA and decided to extend the trip over the weekend to meet up with my friend who was also in California. We wanted to make the most of the weekend and had a whirlwind to fit in all of the best experiences. I thought I would share a little guide of the best things to see and do.
Views
El Matador State Beach: This beach is a little far from downtown LA, but worth the scenic drive up the 1. We went early in the morning and the beach was pretty empty. It’s a little bit of a climb to get down to the ocean, but so worth the amazing views.
The Getty Museum: The Getty not only has one of the best collections of art, the museum itself is stunning. Located on a hill, the museum has great views of the surrounding city. The museum is also free, but you do have to pay for parking.
Hiking
Malibu Creek State Park: This park is great for a walk or a more advanced hike. The park has stunning views and plenty of places to explore. We weren’t prepared for an all day hike, so we just spent a few hours taking in the sights.
Runyon Canyon Park: Runyon Canyon also has stunning views, as well as options for causal walkers and more advanced hikers. There is a paved trail that takes you around the park and off road trails if you want a more adventurous hike. I’m terrified of heights, so I didn’t make it to the top of the mountain!
Shopping
Lido Marina Village: Lido Marina is a cute little shopping area located in Newport Beach. There are lots of cute gift and apparel shops, and the village itself is fun to walk around.
Palisades Village: Palisades Village is a newer shopping complex that felt like shopping Disney World. The grounds are kept very nice with each store front having a unique look. There is a variety of home and apparel stores, with lots of options for food, including a very instagrammable pink Starbucks building.
Eating
Gratitude Beverly Hills: This plant-based (vegan) restaurant is located on Rodeo Drive. I’m a vegetarian, so I try to check out vegan restaurants whenever I can because its amazing to be able to order anything on the menu. My non-vegetarian friend also loved it and the restaurant ambiance was great– we sat outside on the patio to enjoy the views.
Plant Food and Wine: Sorry guys– another vegan place. The food here was amazing! I also love that plant based meals don’t leave you feeling heavy after you eat them. I had the lasagna and it was great!
